What does Reconciliation mean to Sarah Constructions?
There are many important layers to true reconciliation. For Sarah Constructions, reconciliation means working towards mutual respect and understanding between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders and other Australian’s.
What are Sarah Constructions doing in the Reconciliation space?
Our journey towards Reconciliation started as a business initiative through the creation of our ‘Reconciliation Action Plan’ (RAP) in order to continue working with Government bodies, but it has evolved to be so much more than that! We are incredibly proud to have commenced our reconciliation journey - we are at the first ‘Reflect’ stage of our RAP, and it has already impacted the foundation of how we do business. We have established our vision for reconciliation, developed numerous relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and businesses and, through running Cultural Awareness sessions, we have significantly developed how each of us as employees understands, respects and appreciates our Indigenous Australians and their Culture.
Why has Sarah Constructions chosen to be involved with the Smoking Ceremony?
Sarah Constructions have always been community-minded and have enjoyed supporting many organisations over the years. An objective in our RAP journey is to create partnerships with the view to building ongoing relationships. The Australia Day Smoking ceremony resonated strongly with us - it provides an opportunity for Australians to unite and start Australia Day with respect and acknowledgment, sharing gestures of cleansing, hope and wellbeing as we celebrate what it means to be Australian today, together.
Join us in the morning of Australia Day in Elder Park (Tarntanya) to learn more about Aboriginal culture and experience this important event.
The Ceremony will involve a Welcome to Country, led by Uncle Fred Agius and Uncle Major 'Moogy' Sumner as well as performances by the Iwiri Choir.
