Emeritus Professor - History and Gender Studies
Alison Mackinnon was appointed Professor of History and Gender Studies in 1997. She was the Foundation Director of the Hawke Research Institute from 1997 to December 2005. She has retired from that position yet remains an Emeritus Professor within the University. Previously she was Director of the Institute for Social Research (1994–1999) and Director, University Research Development (1996–1998).
Alison is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the convener of the SA Branch of the Academy. On January 26th 2009 she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Alison is currently an Advisory Board Member of the Ageing and Life Conditions project at the Centre for Population Studies at Umea University. In March 2004 she visited the University of Victoria, British Columbia, to lecture in the Lansdowne Lecture Series Program. Alison was a Board Member of the History Trust of South Australia from 2004 to 2013 and of the International Federation for Research in Women's History, and was President of the History Council of South Australia from 2005-2008. In March 2006 she was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor. In 2014 she was appointed to the Heritage Council of South Australia.
